Sugar Cookie Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter softened
  • 400 grams sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 600 grams flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder

Instructions

  • In a stand mixer, with the paddle attachment, cream the butter, sugar, salt and vanilla until light and fluffy.
  • Add eggs one at a time, making sure that the first egg is combined before adding the second one.
  • Add milk slowly.
  • Add flour and baking powder and mix until just combined.
  • Make a disc out of the dough, wrap with plastic wrap and chill for about 30 minutes.
  • Roll out dough on a floured surface.  The dough should be about 3/8" thick.
  • Use your favorite cookie cutters to cut out shapes.
  • Place cookies a lined baking sheet with either parchment paper or silicone baking mat. 
  • Preheat the oven to 350° F.
  • Chill again for about 15 to 20 minutes.  Cookies should keep their shape if you pick them up.
  • Bake for about 10 to 12 minutes or until cookies are a light golden brown around the edges.
  • Let sit for a few moments before transferring to a rack to completely cool.
  • Decorate with your favorite icing and sprinkles.

Notes

  • If using salted butter, omit the additional salt.
  • This dough stores well in the fridge for up to 3 days.
  • These cookies can be frozen for up to 3 months.
