In a stand mixer, with the paddle attachment, cream the butter, sugar, salt and vanilla until light and fluffy.
Add eggs one at a time, making sure that the first egg is combined before adding the second one.
Add milk slowly.
Add flour and baking powder and mix until just combined.
Make a disc out of the dough, wrap with plastic wrap and chill for about 30 minutes.
Roll out dough on a floured surface. The dough should be about 3/8" thick.
Use your favorite cookie cutters to cut out shapes.
Place cookies a lined baking sheet with either parchment paper or silicone baking mat.
Preheat the oven to 350° F.
Chill again for about 15 to 20 minutes. Cookies should keep their shape if you pick them up.
Bake for about 10 to 12 minutes or until cookies are a light golden brown around the edges.
Let sit for a few moments before transferring to a rack to completely cool.
Decorate with your favorite icing and sprinkles.
