Simply put, the Kingsbrae Garden St. Andrews is breathtakingly beautiful. This impressive garden spans over 27 acres and house over 50,000 perennial plants and countless annuals. Since we were staying just a few steps away at the Algonquin Resort, on a beautiful afternoon we decided to head over and check it out.
From the Algonquin, it is just a short walk, but since we were heading for dinner after we decided to drive. There is plenty of free parking on-site. The entrance fee is $16 per adult. We were handed a map detailing a recommended route through the garden to ensure that you see all areas, but you are free to roam as you wish.
The beauty of the garden surpassed our expectations. Every section houses different types of flowers and everything is very well maintained. The hydrangeas were the biggest that we have ever seen. The dahlias were also very impressive with blooms in every color of the rainbow.
The Kingsbrae Garden also houses some animals, including an alpaca family. They also have a few goats, rabbits and peacocks onsite. The goats were very entertaining!
The Sculpture garden, houses impressive award winning art from across Canada. It is very beautiful how the art has been integrated with the plants and water features.
With all this walking you will work up an appetite and they have a few food options for you. There is a cafe on site with a nice terrace to enjoy your fare. They also prepare picnic baskets that you can enjoy anywhere on the grounds. Savour in the Garden is a multi award-winning fine-dining restaurant open during the evenings. It does book up quickly, so reserve early!
It is apparently quite a popular wedding venue. It’s not hard to see why! There is a tent onsite for these. It’s definitely a choice location for stunning wedding pictures.
Wary Travelers Tip:
Like everywhere else in town the Kingsbrae Gardens are also dog friendly. They just ask that you keep your dog a way from the other animals, out of the flower gardens and of course pick up anything that may be left behind.
