Voila Moorea Snorkel Tour

In one word, the Voila Moorea snorkel tour is incredible. But, you didn’t come for just one word, so I’ll give you all the details.

This tour is a must do, definitely amongst our all time favorite tours. We typically shy away from anything boat related since we are prone to motion sickness, but so happy we didn’t this time.  The catamaran, named Taboo, never leaves the lagoon, so it was pretty calm and neither one of us experienced any sickness at all.

The tour took about 4 hours. They picked us up at our hotel at about 7:50 in the morning. After a really short drive (we could have walked short), we hopped on a dingy that brought us to Taboo.  Since the boat is fairly small, the tour group is limited to 8.  There are 3 stops on the tour, the first being the snorkel with the sharks and stingrays. The second the coral garden. And finally the third, underwater Tikis.

Stingrays & Sharks

The first stop on the tour, an area frequented by black tip sharks and stingrays, was pretty incredible. As humans, we are conditioned to stay away from these creatures, but they swam away from us.

In the event that you are too scared to jump in, the bottom is white sand and the water crystal clear and fairly shallow so you can see the sea creatures from the boat.

Coral Garden

This coral garden is located between two motus. So, the area is well protected and pretty shallow in depth. What is a motu? In simple terms, it’s a very small island.

The snorkeling there is incredible. The water is warm, calm, clear and not too deep. We got to see the incredible reef and fish that we had never seen before. If you have had to chance to snorkel Molokini (which is pretty great), this is much better!

And, if you have an underwater camera, don’t forget to bring it along! You will be able to snap some great pics. We brought along our Go Pro for underwater pictures and videos and are really happy with the results.

Other Details

First, the cost for the tour was quite reasonable at $85 USD each. For that price, they will pick you up and drop you off. Provide all the snorkeling equipment that you need and serve you some fruit and drinks. And, the staff was wonderful and very knowledgeable. What we really liked about this tour, over other options for a Moorea snorkel tour, was that the number of guests is small. There were only 8 people plus crew members and it never felt crowded.

Also, this tour is great for people of all ages and swimming abilities. It is even great for those that just want to go for a sail The views are incredible and worth the price alone. To book, or for more details about their sunset cruises, check out their website. Unfortunately, we didn’t get a chance to do the sunset sailing tour, but it’s on our itinerary for the next visit.

And, don’t forget the sunscreen, we did learn the hard way just how strong the sun is in that part of the world. If you have a rash guard or swim shirt, you definitely want to pack it.

Finally, if you are planning to visit Moorea or Bora Bora, we will be positing more great content in the coming weeks.
