Coco Beach is a restaurant on the Tiahura motu in Moorea’s lagoon. It’s where you can enjoy great food with your feet in the sand while taking in one of the world’s best views.
Coco Beach is open Wednesday to Sunday and you need to make a reservation as they do not accept drop-ins. They do tend to fill up fast so make sure to book in advance. For the latest information, and to make a reservation check out their website.
The only way to get there is by boat. The restaurant has a shuttle boat for the guests which costs 500 XPF or about $5 USD each. You can have it added to your tab, so no need to bring cash for this.
When making your reservation, you must select the shuttle pick up time unless you have another means of transportation. We opted for the first available that day which was 10 am. However, there are plenty of options later, if you aren’t a morning person. The boat ride is about 20 minutes from pick up to drop off. Chatting with a local, he told us to avoid weekends there as it tends to be fairly crowded. I say go when you can, it’s worth it.
To get on and off the boat you will need to hop in the water above the knee or higher depending on height so, keep that in mind when selecting you clothing and footwear.
Other transportation options are to rent or charter your own boat or for the more adventurous, by kayak or even paddle board.
Once we got there, we were assigned a table for the duration of our stay. It was perfect. Just a couple steps away from the water, with a great view and shaded by big trees. It was prefect!
Food and Drinks
When we arrived it was pretty early so, we ordered a couple drinks to start. Go for the Pina Colada! It’s made with fresh coconut milk and simply delicious.
Coco Beach has great food and cocktail options. The menu focuses on Polynesian cuisine. Think fish and meat on the grill. We ordered Tahitian salad, Chicken Skewers and a Lobster Burger. It was way too much food but we didn’t realize that until we saw the size of the portions.
Coco Beach is the perfect place to swim in the shallow crystal blue waters, enjoy watching kite surfers or even snorkel. While eating lunch we could see colorful fish and even stingrays swimming around.
You need to bring everything you will need for your stay with you, as there is nothing other than food or drinks available at Coco Beach. Most importantly, don’t forget the sunscreen!
Once there, you can stay until they close or the last shuttle back, depending on your transportation plans. The last shuttle back is at 3 pm on weekdays and 4 pm on weekends. So, go early to make the most of it!
