During a recent trip to the Niagara region in Ontario, we decided to visit Wayne Gretzky Estates. And, it happens to be the only winery, distillery and brewery in the area. And, it couldn’t have been a more perfect day for it.
For those of you not familiar with who Wayne Gretzky is, he’s a Canadian and former professional ice hockey sensation. He played in the NHL for 21 seasons. And, he’s the only NHL player to total over 200 points in one season.
While planning our visit, we noticed that Wayne Gretzky Estates offers daily cocktail making classes. Since we are always looking to perfect our cocktail making skills, we signed up for The Whisky Bartender: Cocktails 101.
The class was great! It was very interactive and we made three great cocktails all whiskey based. Stay tuned for our attempts at re-creating them at home.
Not in the mood to make your own cocktails, no need to worry, they’ve got you covered. There are a variety of tour and tasting options available too.
They also have some great eating options at their Whisky Bar Patio and The Beer Garden. We had some snacks at the Whiskey Bar Patio and the food was great. Their pork tacos and onion rings were especially good.
If you are looking to bring some of the products that you taste at home, there are shops on site. They also have some products that are only available there.
While in the area we stayed in Niagara Falls. We decided to not drive since we knew we were going to have a few drinks. So, we took a Uber there. The Wayne Gretzky Estates is in Niagara-on-the-Lake, about 30 minute drive from our hotel.
If you are thinking of visiting during the colder months, do so. What is a fountain in the warmer months, turns into a skating rink in winter.
Finally, while in the Niagara region, there are plenty of wineries to visit, but if you get a chance to visit Wayne Gretzky Estates, you should definitely do so.
I’ll leave you with one of my favorite quotes ever happens to be something Wayne said: “You miss 100 percent of the shots you never take.“
