There is no shortage of places to eat lunch or dinner in Banff. Eddie Burger Bar is a stand out burger bar that cranks out some uniquely Canadian dishes, like their signature Rocky Mountain Elk burger or the classic Poutine.
Located just off Banff Avenue (the main street in Banff town site), Eddie Burger Bar is close to shops, free parking and shuttle to/from the Banff Gondola making it a great option whenever you’re looking for a meal between taking in the sites and splendor of Banff National Park.
They obviously specialize in burgers, offering virtually any combination you could dream up, if you don’t like their ten classic options on the menu. Accompanying their burger menu is a “build your own burger” sheet complete with 8 very easy steps to building your own perfect burger without the hassle of cooking it yourself. It includes AAA Alberta Beef, Grass Fed Alberta Beef, Bison, Elk, Chicken or Vegetarian options and any toping or condiment you could possibly crave.
If you’re feeling adventurous, order the Elk burger. This is the one they are best known for, and you will not find one this good anywhere. In fact, finding one on a regular menu is a task in itself! For the more traditional burger lover, the Grass Fed Rancher (pictured below) is classically delicious bacon, mushroom and cheese burger perfectly cooked and served on a brioche bun.
Regardless of the burger you select, the sides are a whole other realm of flavor you won’t find in your average burger joint. Sure, you could get the hand cut fries, sweet potato fries or onion rings which are all very good. But where else can you get Poutine with your burger, or Hot Tots (pictured below)? Either one will leave you wondering why you would deprive yourself of either ever again.
Rounding out the experience is the bar. Eddie has a great selection of local beers on tap, unique cocktails (get the Eddie Trash Can if you’re not driving!), and a combination of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic milkshakes.
Like most places in Banff, they have a very small space and try to squeeze in as many seats as possible. The Eddie is a cozy place with less than 30 seats, and only 4 on the patio. This place is worth the wait and will be a great addition to your Canadian Rocky Mountain experience.
One word of caution… Eating in Banff is famously expensive. Eddie Burger Bar is probably going to be more expensive than any other burger places you will probably ever go to. Our suggestion is to not look at the prices and enjoy it for the quality and experience. After all, how many times will you actually be in Banff anyhow?
