The Funky Monkey at Anake’s Juice Bar is the best acai bowl I have ever had. By far. Bold statement, I know! Let me clarify that I am by no means an acai bowl expert, but I have had my fair share of them across most of the Hawaiian Islands and Kauai. It is possible that there is better out there, and if there are I want it know about it. Seriously, if you know of one, add it to the comments please!
We stumbled onto this place in search for a cool snack on a hot day, and returned more times than one probably should during one trip. Honestly,.. probably ten times in twelve days?
The actual juice bar is at the back of the Kukuiula Market, which is a little creepy (the market, not Anake’s) and there is almost no visible signage to indicate where Anake’s is once you are in the parking lot. Go through the main doors of the market, follow the sounds of the high speed blenders coming from the back-left corner to find the juice bar.
The menu
They have a good selection of bowls, smoothies and fresh juices. In my opinion, if they only served the Funky Monkey acai bowl they would still be popular. It is quite reasonably priced with the medium at $8. There’s a larger size available for $12. But, you’d have to be super human to consume something so large and cold in one sitting. I mean, it may have happened once on a really hot day and after a long hike. Don’t even think about ordering a large for two people because you will just fight over it. It’s that good. If you’re allergic to nuts skip this one, as they mix peanut butter into the acai mixture.
Since we love acai bowls so much we needed to come up with a version that we can make at home. To make your own, click here for instructions. And, let us know how it turns out.
