It’s no secret, Kauai can be expensive. Since we like to stretch our dollar when we travel, we seek out the best Happy Hour on Kauai. In Hawaii, it’s often called Aloha Hour! And, just about every establishment has some specials. However, some aren’t actually a great deal. Lucky you, we’ve done our research. Here a list of the Happy Hours that we think are actually worthy of being called Aloha hours and your hard earned money.
*** Unfortunately due to lockdowns related to COVID-19 some of these businesses might not yet have re-opened or might have closed permanently. ***
Kiawe Roots
First, Kiawe Roots is located in the Shops at Kukui‘ula in Poipu, above Tequilla Republic. This is our top pick for best happy hour on Kauai. A truly local establishment, family run and dishing out high quality food at unbelievable prices. They offer half off on their signature cocktails, beer and wine from 3 to 5 pm.
These cocktails are not your basic tourist trap Mai Tai either. They press their own calamansi juice for what we believe is the best cocktail on Kauai, the Black Hawk. You might come for the cocktails, but you will stay for the food. They offer amazing fried brussel sprouts ($8), ginger marinated and deep fried chicken wings ($7) and the best happy hour deal in Poipu with their two sliders for $6. They change daily.
And, if you’re still hungry after taking in their Happy Hour, their menu is full of amazing food like their Huli Huli chicken.
The Beach House
Next, with arguably the best Happy Hour view on Kauai, the Beach House is also on our list. They offer great live music while you enjoy front row seats to an incredible the sunset, while watching surfers and the occasional whale sighting. The view is best enjoyed with their famous Monkeypod Mai Tai ($10). Also, the lobster deviled eggs ($12), and house cut garlic parm fries ($5) are great options.
Yes, their prices are a little higher here than our other recommendations, however you get the view and live music on top of their impeccable service and dishes made with quality ingredients. So, it’s worth it! Read our full post Beach House post here.
Cabana Bar and Grill
Tucked away, off the main road in Poipu, inside the Poipu Athletic Club, The Cabana Bar & Grill is a hidden gem. They offer $2 off pupus, beer and wine from 4 to 6 pm. You can’t go wrong with any of their local beers on tap or their unique and amazing Mai Tai.
Since you’re there, go for the Kalua Pork sliders ($12) which we think are some of the best on the island. The organic Edamame ($4) and the Grilled Safron Pita and Hummus ($10) are obvious choices for a healthier snack.

Pizzetta
With one of the longer Happy Hours, running from 3 to 5:30 pm, Pizzetta is delivering great fare. And, a must while on Kauai. With local beers ($4), massive Mai Tais ($7), and well drinks ($7), they offer great value in their Old Koloa Town establishment. So, we keep coming back for their $7 bruschetta and stuffed mushrooms.
Also, they have great pizza, and they allow half and half orders to keep your marriage intact. A secret menu item we go for is the “Real Hawaiian” pizza, which has hour made Kalua Pork instead of ham. The best part of Pizzetta? You can buy a $40 gift card at Costco for $25. When you combine this with their happy hour prices, you’re getting incredible value especially if you’re feeding a lot of mouths. Click here for their Happy Hour menu.
Kauai Island Brewing
Last but not least, Kauai Island Brewing is a must. It’s a local hangout in Port Allen, across from many of the boat tour companies. It’s also conveniently located on the road back from a day hiking or exploring the Waimea Canyon.
This does not offer a view, and it’s a little off the beaten track, however this local microbrew well worth a stop. Boasting a wide selection of craft beers for $5, wine for $6, Mai Tai (with house made mix!) for $7, wings for $.75 each and a killer stack of Kalua Nachos for $9. Everything in this kitchen is made from scratch, and it shows. These guys are passionate about what the put inside you, and this Happy Hour is just icing on the cake.
Also, if you’re looking for something a little more filling, we highly recommend the Kalua Pork Sandwich. We think it’s the best one on the Island. So far, we haven’t found a better one, anywhere. Happy Hour is 3:30 to 5:30 pm.
