We love Maui and we love staying in the Kā’anapali area when we visit. The one hotel that we keep going back to is The Westin Maui Resort & Spa. To be honest, we have stayed there probably a dozen times. In fact, we have stayed there more than at any other hotel. So, we are basically experts…
If you are looking to stay put on your vacation, this resort offers everything that you could possibly want. Situated in the best location on Kā’anapali Beach, often featured in the top 10 beaches in the US by TripAdvisor, you simply cannot go wrong here.
Recently, they have done a complete overhaul of the resort common areas. These renovations were well thought out and what a difference this has made! Definitely less traditional and more modern and sleek.
The Guest Rooms
The Westin Maui has guest rooms in two towers: the Ocean Tower and the Hokupa’a Tower.
The rooms in the Ocean Tower have been renovated in the last few years with neutral beachy décor. And, each room as its own private lanai. The rooms aren’t very big but are comfortable. It’s not a big deal since you won’t be there much there is so much to explore. As a bonus, every room has a mini fridge to keep your water or beer cold!
The rooms in the Hōkūpa’a Tower were just renovated and are quite spectacular. The décor is what I would describe as modern beachy. These rooms also have their own private lanais and fridges The main advantages are that the rooms have great ocean views and are larger than the ones in the other tower.
The Pools
The pool area is awesome! It actually has 5 separate pools, a swim-through grotto with waterfalls, and a hidden whirlpool and waterslides to keep the kids busy. Also, there are plenty of chairs to lounge and soak up the sun! For those wanting to avoid children, they have an adult only section with a pool, an infinity edge pool, a hot tub and a bar.
The pool area has just undergone some extensive renovations and the adult area was expanded. It’s a great place to escape of the chaos around.
The Beach
Don’t like the pool? Not a problem. Beautiful Kā’anapali Beach, with its golden awaits you at the end of the walkway. The resort offers beach chair and umbrella rentals for their guests. It’s the perfect place to sit and enjoy some great people watching or read a good book.
The Gym
To work off some of the vacation overindulgences, the Westin Workout gym is open 24 hours a day. It’s very busy around 7 am, but we have found that if wait to go until later in the day, it is less crowded. We usually go do our activities for the day and workout before dinner. Most days, we had the gym to ourselves.
They also offer spin and yoga classes for a fee. To sign up, drop by the Heavenly Spa or give them a call. Runners, the Westin offers run routes. Check it out here or see the concierge for a printed copy. On your way back, they will greet you with a towel and some water. Both important, in such a warm climate.
For those looking for a little bit of pampering, the Heavenly Spa offers a wide range of services. Unfortunately, I haven’t tried it yet but I definitely will on a future trip!
Activities
Looking for activity ideas, hit up the concierge desk. They are able to make all the required reservations for you whether it’s a boat tour, kayaking tour or a luau. On Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday evening, there’s a luau onsite. However, during the renovations the luau might not happen.
Dining
Luckily, there are several new dining options on site that are definitely worth checking out. And, recently, Starbucks location opened on site. But, one of the best things about the Maui Westin is its close proximity to Whaler’s Village and restaurants like Leilani’s, Hula Grill and Monkeypod.
The Lānai
Guest staying in the Hōkūpa’a will be treated with exclusive access to The Lānai at Hōkūpa’a. This lounge offers panoramic views, daily breakfast, a private bar, infinity edge cocktail pools and cultural experiences. It’s a great place to come cool down during the day or for a nightcap in the evening. The Lānai staff is so friendly and very helpful.
Weddings
Unfortunately, we did not get married here, nor have we attended any weddings here but we’ve walked by several on the resort and they looked amazing! Honestly, I can’t think of a more magical place to get married if you are looking for a destination wedding.
Parking
For those of you having previously been to the Westin, you might remember the “parking wars” that used to happen there. It was pretty entertaining to say the least. You will be happy to learn that this isn’t the case anymore because they have built a multi-level parking garage. They offer both the self park and valet options for a fee.
New for 2024
Recently, Ulu Kitchen, a new restaurant opened on the property. They focus on locally sourced products and handcrafted food and drinks. We are excited to check it out next time we are in Maui, the food looks delicious. They are opened for breakfast, lunch and dinner so stop by and report back in the comments.
Also, the Westin Maui is in the perfect location to enjoy some of World famous sunsets. Be sure to take time to catch a few while visiting.
