*** We are heartbroken about the recent devastation caused by the wild fires. Over the years we have spent many hours in Lahaina, the memories will always hold a special place in our hearts. Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Maui. Please support if you can. ***
Lahaina Town is West Maui’s shopping hub. And, you will find the best of it on Front Street. Taking a stroll down Front Street is a great activity day or night.
Shopping
There are plenty of shops, well known retail chains, such as Sunglass Hut and Billabong, and many local shops and vendors, our favorite being Honoloa Surf Co. Just a block behind Front Street you can visit the Outlets of Maui. There you will find outlets for several well-known brands such as Coach, Adidas and Michael Kors. And of course, Old Lahaina Luau!
Eats
Once you have worked up an appetite, from all the shopping, I have a few snack recommendations for you. If you’ve never tried shave ice, hit up Ululani’s for the best around. It’s a great refreshing sweet snack. If you are in the mood for ice cream, definitely try Lappert’s Ice Cream and Coffee. They also serve Dole Whip, for those of you familiar with it. For those of you who aren’t, give this pineapple favored and fat free goodness a try, you’ll thank me!
If you are looking for more than just a snack check out Pi. They have a great patio with an unobstructed view to watch the sunset.
Art
There are several art galleries to visit. Our two favorite are the Kush Gallery and Peter Lik Gallery. Peter Lik takes amazing pictures. Kush’s art is very whimsical. You can’t leave either of these galleries without picturing some new art on your walls.
Relax
The Banyan Tree Park, has an amazing banyan tree. This tree was planted in 1873 and is now over 60 feet tall and covers an area of 200 feet. The amazing thing about banyan trees is that roots grown down from the branches until they reach the ground and form a new trunk. This tree has 12 major trunks.
On weekends, there is a little market under the tree where locals sell crafts and play music for all to enjoy.
One word of caution, it can get very crowded especially when there are some cruise ships docked. It’s a great thing to do at night, it really comes alive.
Wary Travelers Tip
If you are planning on visiting on a sunny day, it can get quite hot. Make sure lather on the sunscreen and stay hydrated.
