Update Nov 2018: Recently, the Marriott/SPG brand decided to sell this property and it is now know as the Princeville Resort. From what we can tell not much has changed except the name but we hear that extensive renovations are on the horizon. We can’t wait to check it out on a future trip. And of course, we’ll report back.
If you are looking to visit Kauai and looking for a luxury experience in a breathtaking setting we would highly recommend checking out the St. Regis Princeville.
During our last trip to Kauai, we rented a condo in the Poipu area, but also wanted to spend a few days in the Princeville/Hanalei area. Since we are avid point collectors, we used some of our SPG points for a 3 night stay at the St. Regis Princeville. Luxury for free? Yes, please!
From the minute you drive up to the St. Regis Princeville and greeted by the parking attendants, you will be treated to impeccable service. All the staff is very friendly and willing to go the extra mile to ensure that your experience is memorable.
The views of Hanalei Bay are out of this world. Regardless of how many pictures you see, none do the view justice. Built on the side of a cliff, unlike most hotels, the lobby and restaurants are on the top floors. Every window in takes full advantage of the views.
It is an older hotel so the rooms are a bit dated. Everything is still very comfortable and well maintained. The rooms are fairly large and the beds are extremely comfortable.
The Amenities
The restaurants on site are fabulous. While we were there we checked out Makana Terrace, the Kauai Grill, the St. Regis Bar, Nalu Kai Grill and Bar and ordered room service. You can make reservations with OpenTable at the Kauai Grill and Makana Terrace.
There isn’t much around the resort in terms of amenities, but the Princeville Shopping Center and Hanalei Town are just a short drive away. Both have restaurants, grocery stores and boutiques. Looking for breakfast or a snack while in Hanalei? We recommend checking out Hanalei Bread Company.
When it comes to activities they’ve go you covered. There’s an activities desk on site where you can rent everything from a surf board and SUP board to kayaks and snorkeling gear. The beach is just a few steps away and the pool is fantastic! Both have incredible views of Hanalei Bay. If you happen to go during winter months, you might be intimidated by the high surf warnings and the big waves that you are seeing. We have a solution for you! Check out Kayak Hanalei you will be able to kayak and stand-up paddleboard on the Hanalei River.
Looking for something more relaxing? There are plenty of lounge chairs both by the pool and on the beach. Starting around 11 am servers come around to ensure that your drinking and eating needs are covered. No need to get up from your chair, except maybe for your spa appointment!
If you are contemplating a wedding or honeymoon in Hawaii, you should definitely consider this place! It is truly magical.
