During our latest visit to Maui, we decided to stay at the Wailea Beach Resort. Typically, we stay in the Ka’anapali area, but this time since our stay was short (only 2 days) and we didn’t want to rent a car, we opted for the Wailea area. And, since we are avid Bonvoy point collectors, we chose to give the Wailea Beach Resort a try.
After being dropped off at the hotel, we were greeted with a glass of cold POG and some leis. The check in process was fairly easy and the staff very friendly and helpful. Since it was approaching sunset, we dropped off our bags and headed out to catch a glimpse.
For dinner, we decided to stay close and check out Kapa Bar & Grill. It’s pretty casual and you can’t go wrong with fish tacos and a mai tai. After our meal, we were ready to call it a night.
While booking our stay, we noticed that the resort offers complimentary fitness classes. And they are bookable online. So, we booked ourselves a “Stretch and Recover” Yoga class for our first morning. The class was great and a fantastic way to start the morning.
Also, we discovered that poolside cabanas can be booked online, ahead of time. So, we went ahead and did that. During really busy times, it’s best to book these things in advance to avoid being disappointment. It wasn’t cheap but it did come with a free snack, fruit and banana bread (probably the best I’ve ever had), cold water and a $50 food and beverage credit.
We had spent the previous day traveling and were happy to just spend some time unwinding by the pool.
The Amenities
The fitness center is well equipped with plenty of cardio equipment, including Peleton Bikes, and a wide variety of weight machines and free weights.
The resort is also home to a Starbucks, a food truck and several dining options. We did have the chance to check out Humble Market Kitchin, by Roy Yamaguchi, a pioneer of the Hawaii Regional Cuisine movement. The food was great. Go for sunset and ask for an outdoor seat. If you’re lucky, you’ll be treated to one of Maui’s great sunsets. We were lucky enough to catch some very pretty sunsets while there.
Resort Fees
What you pay for the resort fees, seems much better value than some of the other resorts. This resort does include several perks. These include: daily fitness classes, shuttle within the area, complimentary internet and much more.
The Area
The Wailea Beach Resort is conveniently located. It’s mere steps from the Shops at Wailea, which has plenty of food and shopping options.
Also, the Wailea Beach Resort is close to several nearby resorts. To get there, just follow the pathway. And, they all have great restaurants and shops.
In addition, the Wailea Beach Resort offers a free shuttle within the area. We did take advantage to go to MonkeyPod for Happy Hour.
Our stay was definitely too short, but we were off to Kauai for the rest of our adventure. Next time we will probably split our time on Maui between the Westin Ka’anapli and the Wailea Beach Resort.
