Recently, we had the opportunity to spend a weekend in Toronto, after spending some time in the Niagara Region. This Toronto Weekend was less than 48 hours, but we did pack quite a bit into that time.
Saturday
We arrived in Toronto Saturday morning and headed straight to the hotel to check in. We stayed at the Ritz-Carlton downtown. It’s centrally located and prefect if you are looking to go to a Jays game at the Rogers Centre. Or a Maple Leafs or Raptors game at the Scotiabank Arena. All are within walking distance.
After a dropping off our luggage, we decided to head our to find some lunch… Since I am obsessed with Chipotle and I can sniff one out anywhere so that’s where we ended up. While enjoying our lunch, we noticed several people in various costumes walk by. Since we were fairly curious about what was going on we decided to follow some of them. Turns out that it was Fan Expo weekend.
After this, we decided to walk up to Queen Street & King Street and spent some time at Nathan Phillips Square.
While visiting various cities, we always try to have an event to go to. It so happens that Toronto Cider Festival was happening while we were in town. So, we purchased our VIP passes and headed over. It was a really fun time. We ate, drank some great cider and danced the night away.
We got to taste a variety of ciders. Some fairly traditional and others pretty creative. One of my favorites was made with Rosé.
Sunday
For breakfast, we decided to check out Café Landwer. While walking around, on Saturday, we had noticed it and it was close to our hotel. Turns out it was a great decision. Their menu had a lot of tasty sounding options but we opted for the Acai Bowl and the Eggs Benedict Florentine and Florentine potatoes. Both solid choices.
After our meal, we decided to go up the CN Tower. We are both very afraid of heights. But, we still opted for the tickets that allow you to visit 3 different levels.
We bravely decided to make it all the way to the top first. As soon as I made it off of the elevator, I felt week in the knees. It was so high up, but the views incredible. However, we quickly went down to the lower levels. Those were a piece of cake.
After having taken way too many pictures, we decided to go explore a bit more. We opted to walk down Front street and take in the sights since it was such a beautiful day.
Obviously we couldn’t walk by the famous flatiron building without snapping a pic. Too, one of my favorite things was all the beautiful flowers that lined the streets.
Eventually, we headed to the Lounge at the Ritz. The weather was perfect and after all the walking we were looking for a snack and to relax a bit.
Sunday night, we met up with friends at Rosina for dinner. They serve authentic, homemade Italian food with recipes that have been handed down through generations. The food was very good and the company even better. Since, I was too busy talking, I forgot to snap some pics. So unfortunately, the one below of the Gnocchi Tricolore is all I have.
Monday
Sadly, Monday morning we hopped on an early morning flight back to Calgary. It was a fantastic weekend, but it was way too short. The good news is that we will definitely be back.
Also, here are some other ideas of things to, if you are planning a Toronto Weekend:
- Hockey Hall of Fame visit
- Walk down Younge Street
- Shopping on Bloor Street
- Visit to Toronto Island
- St. Lawrence Market
- Walk around the Distillery District
Finally, while planning your Toronto Weekend, if you find some free time in your itinerary, you should plan a visit to Niagara Falls. Yes, it is 90 minutes away, but well worth the trip.
